Digital (natural lighting)

I like this picture A LOT because I didn't even use a real tungstin, I used natural lighting inside the shack on the jetti of mission beach. I'm really proud of this picture because I was able to capture the tungstin effect without using one. To improve this picture, I could have gotten more light into his left (our right) eye to add more emphasis on his face. I could also have gotten his eyes more into one of the upper thirds and also I could ahveremoved the CANON straps from his chest. I like the detail I achieved in his beard, it's rad. I like it.

6th period: The Burning House

My collection for The Burning House project:
-A picture of my deceased brother, John. This picture stays at my bedside.
     -Personal song journal.
-Photo album of me with my closest friends.
-2nd photo album of me with my friends + family.
-The Genius & The Goddess by Aldous Huxley, a book about a man who falls in love, lets it go, then never gets to feel that love again because the girl passes. It's a book about loving what you have and appreciating it.

Family Portraits

For my window lighting project, I made a 4 picture series of my friends Nathan, Yanel, and Eve as a "family". I made mt pictures really dark to insinuate that these pictures are really old and stuff. There really isn't much that i'd fix about my pictures, other than Eve's single picture being a little soft compared to the others, other than that, i'm really proud of my series and how it came out. I love them and there isn't anything else I'd fix about them.

Period 2: Personalities

The point of this project was to capture a persons personality in one shot. I used Justin as my model because he's one of the funniest and silliest guys I know, and that meant that this would be a fun shoot. I gave Justin a little fan to play with and told him to just be himself, automatically he starts acting like a monkey and playing around. We were supposed to capture a persons personality and I'd say I did so perfectly. A few things I would have changed are the composition and a less boring backdrop. The composition is a little unorganized and not the most successful or as successful as it could be and the backdrop is just plain, both could have been improved. Despite these failures, I still think i finished this project successfully, capturing his personality with his action and his prop.

Period 6: Warm and Cool

The project we were given was to capture a shot of something containing warm and cool colors using our phone. I used a bright pink-ish plant as my closest subject and the same plant but a different color as its background. The closer subject is my warm color and my background is my cool color. I like the repeated pattern that was captured in the background (the petals of the plants) in contrast of the unorganized and crazy petals of the warm subject. To make this picture better, I could have organized it a bit better and removed some of the noise from the environment, like the weeds sticking everywhere. But overall, I like the outcome of this picture.

Period 6: Arbus Inspired

I used my bestfriend Cody for my Diane Arbus inspired shoot. Cody is sweet and completely sincere from head to toe, it's almost impossible to make this guy mad. I made him stand and just talk to me about his day, and caught him in between stories or sentences, while he was fixing his hair or pulling up his pants. In this picture he was squinting to get the sun out of his eyes, and it makes his expression look angry or frustrated, a little bothered... something Cody never really is. His face is strained and abnormal, un-relaxed. I feel like I successfully caught a subtle awkwardness in this photo in Cody's face and uncomfortable looking stance. Something I feel I could have changed or improved upon in this picture is the background possibly taking away from my subject. He's wearing a plain black shirt with a neutral colored logo, compared to his blue and green background, which could lead the audience's eye away, although I also feel like the strong black in the shirt draws the attention back to Cody.

Period 2:

I used Nathan and Yanel as my subjects. I used a shorter Fstop to emphasize on their facial and head characteristics, and not the noisy background. I used the rule of thirds to place the strong white and almost black in one corner, and their two faces in two others. I attempted to get both a strong white and a strong black, but I only achieved a solid white on Nathan's shirt. I wasn't trying to convey any message, this was more of just a practice run outside with these SLR's, and to learn about developing/printing. I thought I did well, considering this is my first print, I could have tried avoiding the dust on Nathan's face, and to leave it in the developer longer to create more contrast, but all in all... I'm proud of my work. I feel that it's successful in capturing their personalities.
